Gold Medal Ales are produced monthly
in recognition of some of the 'greats' of history. The World's first organised motorcycle race took place on the 29th November 1897 on an oval track laid out in the grounds of Sheen House, Richmond Park. After two eliminating heats the final was won by Charles Jarrott riding a Terrot over the one mile course in 2.08 minutes. Jarrott, born in Pimlico to a blacksmith and his wife, embraced early motorracing with great enthusiasm, becoming a founder member of the Automobile Association and later it's Chairman. Charles certainly gave today's popular Worldwide sport a flying start. |
